Well, we didn’t really camp, but we stayed in a cabin in The PEEC (Pocono Environmental Education Center). While not the nicest or most rustic cabin, it was warm …Â it went down into the 30’s the night we stayed. The first cabin they gave us was covered in cobwebs and dirty but the one we ended up with was cleaner and warm.
PEEC is located between Bushkill Falls & Dingman’s Falls, 2 great falls trails, the former is the longer and more scenic of the two. At PEEC, there are also several great trails, and the one we hiked (Tumbling Waters Trail) has a very pretty set of falls in it as well. The office building has a large education center, with several displays, and the evening we stayed, we were lucky enough to sit in on a presentation from the animal shelter. They brought out some wild animals that were recovering from injuries, or could no longer fend for themselves in the wild. They also released, back to the wild, several owls that they nursed back from injuries.
We opted to purchase the breakfast – and at $6.50 per person, it was much better than we had expected. Eggs, potatoes, sausage, cereals, yogurt and much more. The facility is new and very impressive.
